4D 3N BKK TRIP [ DAY 1 ]

D & J 4D3N BKK TRIP

DAY 1

Finally got myself started on our BKK post with my new macbook air! So this was both our first time in BKK, so we were really very excited when we bought the tickets. We booked the tickets from scoot quite last minute so we had to pay $190 all in for one ticket, which was rather pricey considering my friend got his taiwan ticket for $180. To add on to our dismay, this flight was an evening flight so we kinda lost a day at BKK. :(

So we begin our trip by having late lunch at Changi restaurant serving Penang food. I ordered dry prawn mee while Jeannette ordered assam laksa. The food was super average in my opinion although Jeannette liked my dry prawn mee.

Our assam laksa and iced white coffee

Enjoying her coffee :)

But first a few selfies before we boarded the plane.:)

So when we alighted from the plane, we were super excited to see how the "Land of a Thousand Smiles" was like. To our pleasant surprise, I would say like to find the person that told me it was the land of smiles and punch him in the face. We were thrown with a brick of bad attitude from the sim card store people, who got irritated just because we were comparing prices. Moreover, the way they sell is extremely pushy and incredible. They give you one price and then they say another. Their buy one get one free is just a bait for customers, the price for a single sim card stands at around 10 SGD? I am not really sure but it was cheaper compared to getting it in 7/11 which was 11-12 SGD. Just be careful when you are purchasing sim cards at the airport.

We were determined not to let this little shitty attitude get in our way from having a fun trip together. Don Meung airport is a distance away from town area of BKK so we had to take a cab. We saw a notice that stated we had to pay 2SGD [50baht] more for the taxi toll.  However, little did we know we were gonna be riding on a super expensive cab.

Once we reached the hotel, our meter was 230 baht and add that up it is 280 baht. i did not have small change at that time and so I passed him 1000 baht. Low and behold! He passed me 500 baht... hello??? Sensing something was amiss, I tried to clarify with him but he just kept telling me road toll, airport toll... which was obviously a scam. In the end we settled for 400baht cause we did not want to waste any precious time. So please bring loose change or break your notes before you board the cab and be firm!

Taxis are seriously a burden to deal with in Bangkok. Just insist on going by meter, it is way way cheaper compared to paying a lump sum.

My face when the taxis offer me slump sum payment for a trip.

our hotel was Centara Watergate Pavilion. Sounds good right? I guess it was clean and cosy and the hotel is quite convenient. Could be better if our hotel was beside a BTS station but other than that, it was quite good.

Our welcome drink by the hotel :)

Jeannette introduced me this drink, it is called beauty water. It has collagen and etc. I don't really like to drink these kind of water cause I couldn't care less about taking supplements for my face. However it tasted damn good and I was kind of influenced by Jeannette. I ended up drinking at least one a day and for 20 baht at 7/11 it is less than 1SGD a bottle! [Okay I drank like 2 a day? :X]

So we decided to hit coconut ice-cream night market. This name was created by us, because we chanced upon this night market, thinking it was pratunam night market. The reason why we named it like this was because we were able to find coconut ice-cream!!!!!! It is seriously damn lucky because its damn hard to get these outside chatuchak and our trip was during weekdays so we could not visit chatuchak. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the street food around there.

Seriously damn lucky finding it

Super tasty Coconut ice cream

So after covering the coconut ice cream market, we decided to explore other night market since we had time. We hailed a tuktuk and yes they were money grubbers as well, charging unreasonably high. We asked to head to Siam night market and manage to haggle 50baht as it was super near. Somehow Siam night market is closed on Monday so he brought us to Patpong night market and Silom night market instead. He actually told us it was 80 baht cause it was longer. I was like... here we go again~ We stuck to our guns and insisted on 50 as that was what it was agreed upon. he reluctantly agreed and come to think of it the trip was really one of the most value for money ride in our BKK trip.

There wasn't much to shop around so we got sticky rice! We were kind of lucky as the seller said the pandan sticky rice was only sold on Monday so kudos to the driver for kindly trying to scam us. It wa worth a try and seriously it was not bad. I guess sticky rice really isn't our thing cause it was the only sticky rice we ate in the trip.

Silo night market enjoying our sticky rice!

We gad some random roadside maggee noodle soup for 60baht about 2.5 SGD. It was seriously damn good and maybe because it was the first proper meal of the night.

After which we decided to go for a thai massage. Random massage shop for 250 baht [10 SGD]. Super cheap! We fell in love with thai massage especially me cause this is my first thai massage. The places they press and massage are seriously spot on and damn shiok <3 we ended up massaging everyday except for the second day.

Thai massage outfit featuring thai-nette

After the good food and massage, we decided to head back to our hotel and enjoy our rooftop bar in our hotel. It had a very chill ambience, however the drinks were expensive and we ended up ordering a mocktail before retiring back to our room and calling it a day.:)
